Western Bluebird

Size: 6-7 inches

This bird lives in open woodlands and pastures and nests in holes in trees.

Bluebirds are in the thrush family.

Food: Insects, earthworms, snails, and berries

Nest: cavity (often an old woodpecker hole) They have been decreasing in number because starlings and House Sparrows have been taking over nesting areas.

In Marin: year round

Blue and orange are much less bright on females.
