The Tiscornia Marsh rehabilitation effort is getting $5 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and $1.9 million from the California Ocean Protection Council.
Nearly $7 million in grant funding is boosting a project to restore marshlands and add sea-level protections in San Rafael’s Canal neighborhood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $5 million grant to the Marin Audubon Society this week to support the rehabilitation of Tiscornia Marsh, a project years in the making. The marsh occupies 20 acres north of Pickleweed Park and the Albert J. Boro Community Center.
“It’s very significant and exciting,” Marin Audubon Society president Barbara Salzman said of the award. “This is the biggest piece that will get us to the end of actually completing the project.”
